Statement
A visual journal going through my journey as a photographer. How I started, what I&aposm exploring now, and what has caught my eye recently. The series are loosely organized around themes, subjects, or techniques that shape the style of my work.
How It All Began
Growing up in a Filipino household my only real experience with taking photos was a group photo of everyone gathered together, family and friends. As a kid, it irritated me, "why are we taking the same photo 10+ times where the only thing that might have changed was where someone was standing," I thought. I got over it eventually, but I think that early experience is what kept photography off my radar for so long. Towards the end of high school I became more aware how some of my personal friends had a beautifully curated display on their socials which began to change my view towards taking photos. In fact, I realized I had made many memories throughout high school but nothing tangible to really show for it. With an abrupt end to my senior year due to covid I really wanted to at least begin to capture new moments from now on, so I picked up my Dad's old canon Rebel t3i, learned the exposure triangle in a night, got a few of my friends, and took graduation photos for us.
2020Wait! You Look Really Good Like That
I gravitated towards portraits because honestly, I thought my friends looked good and I wanted to capture that. There's something satisfying about showing someone a version of themselves they didn't expect to see. I thought people looked beautiful and I wanted to photograph that.
2021Look At You
What had started from the desire to capture my own memories has turned into an ability to also capture the moments for others. This is my Graduation Series.
